"Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change."
Brené Brown
“Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
-Albert Einstein
This has been my story, wobbling back and forth as I pedal through life. I was born in northern California, met my wife in Germany, went to graduate school in Alabama, and have made a home in Utah. I married my partner in 2002 and we have six children together. For my mental health, sometimes “keep moving” means sitting still and meditating. Sometimes it means reaching out for help and support. It always means to keep trying.
I have a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a master’s degree in public administration. With that combination you would think I would be a warden at a county jail. Instead, I am the Business Director here at Grace Therapy & Healing. I am responsible for customer service, billing, dealing with insurance companies, and troubleshooting.
Most of my professional experience centers on leading teams. I have experience leading construction crews, retail teams, and research projects. For me, the industry or specific task is never as important as the unity and relationships that are built along the way. Individuals are the most important part of any group, corporation, or community. To quote an old mentor, “It’s always about the relationship,” regardless of what you are working on.
Outside of the office I love to read, make things out of wood, and watch birds. I know bird watching is a hobby for someone 20 years older than me, but I wanted to get a head start on my retirement hobbies.
“When you have a dream, you’ve got to grab it and never let go.”
Carol Burnett
Never did I think my dream as a young, new therapist would come to fruition. I always thought about having a nonprofit, and that dream has changed over time. I didn't quite think it would turn into this, but I'm so happy it did. What a journey this has been. I grew up in Texas, went to graduate school both in Texas and in Georgia, finishing at Brigham Young University. I got my first big girl job in Texas after graduation but eventually moved back to Utah. I’ve now lived the longest in Utah since leaving my childhood home.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapy. Most of my professional experience has been in providing mental health services, both in private practice and group practice. In addition, I have taught as an adjunct at BYU, consulted with a recruiting company, and have co-owned a CrossFit gym at various points in my life. All of these experiences have led me to this point in my life.
I love what I do! At Grace Therapy & Healing, I am the Clinical Director where I oversee the therapists who work with us in. I monitor processes and procedures and provide guidance and supervision. I value an environment in which we share ideas, have fun, and enjoy being together. I love that we have this in our office. Life is too short to not enjoy going to work each day.
When I’m not in the office, I love a little adrenaline rush, sitting by a fire on a crisp evening, playing pickleball, and practicing the piano.
